Poole Town

Thanks very much to Dave Kubat for the report on Sunday's match:

FA Women’s Cup 3rd Round Qualifying Sunday 7th October

Poole Town LFC 0 Oxford City Ladies 6

Oxford City Ladies travelled to Poole Town for this FA Cup Third Round qualifying game. Poole Town played a defensive game from the start and never appeared to pose a great threat. Oxford City found it difficult to finish the numerous attacks on the Poole goal until minutes before the half time whistle when Michele Ewins found the back of the Poole net.

Half time Poole Town LFC 0 Oxford City Ladies 1

City came out after half time with Steph Mobbs replacing Claire Bates. High balls were played end to end with neither side able to make them count. With 25 minutes remaining Steph Kubat was brought on to replace Michele Ewins, and Amy Cranston was brought on to replace Louise Craig. The pairing of Steph Mobbs and Steph Kubat up front soon paid dividends. Mobbs firing home from a Kubat cross doubled the City lead. In almost an exact reversal of this, Mobbs set up Kubat for the third City goal. The partnership carried on working its magic and Kubat was able to find the net twice more to complete her hat-trick and a 5–0 lead for City. Not content to sit back on this, Katie Totton added a sixth in the last minutes of the game giving City a 6–0 victory and a place in the 1st round proper to be played on Sunday 28th October at Court Place Farm stadium against Salisbury City.

Henley Town

FA WOMEN’S CUP sponsored by E.ON
SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND

Sunday 30 September, 2007

OXFORD CITY (2) 4 (Michelle Ewins 8, Lauren Carnell 24, Claire Ostle 58, Katie Totton 86)
HENLEY TOWN (0) 0

Oxford City eased through to the next round with a convincing performance. City dominated the game from the first whistle, and only a combination of careless finishing, bad luck and some excellent Henley goalkeeping stopped City from killing the game off by half-time.

Henley showed some good touches in midfield, but with Carol Harwood imperious at the back, Hannah Cox did not have a serious save to make until the 83rd minute.

City created several early chances, and went ahead in the 8th minute when Michelle Ewins, who was direct and threatening throughout, latched on to a clever Claire Ostle ball and finished coolly from 15 yards.

Some excellent last-ditch tackles prevented City from adding to their lead until Lauren Carnell forced home an Ostle corner.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Ostle putting City 3 up after an earlier shot had been brilliantly saved.

Katie Totton, whose strong running and persistence had been a fixture throughout, completed the scoring in the closing minutes with a crisp volley from a Hannah Smye cross, after a defence-splitting pass from Steph Kubat.

This was an excellent performance against a team who are second in the same division in which City lie fifth, featuring some good teamwork and passing.

Oxford City now travel to Poole Town LFC in the next round.

Oxford City: Hannah Cox – Lauren Carnell (capt.), Carol Harwood, Heidi Hiscock – Claire Ostle (sub Louise Craig 69 min), Claire Bates, Michelle Robinson (sub Tina Higgs 87 min), Hannah Smye – Katie Totton, Michelle Ewins (sub Steph Kubat 77 min), Rachel Catling.
Unused sub: Rosa Somers.

Aldershot Match

Aldershot Ladies soaked up a lot of pressure from City before going ahead with a 30 yard shot against the run of play. Michelle Robinson then leveled the match when she slotted home from 6 yards, however, the visitors managed to hold on for a point.

So City Ladies drew their second league fixture in the Women's Regional Southern Premier Division 1-1 at Court Place Farm Stadium, although this was to have been a home fixture for Aldershot.
